What is structural timber?

Structural timber is a relatively simple, yet highly versatile product which is used mostly for in walls (e.g. struts) or roofs. We produce structural timber in strength class C 24 according to DIN EN 14081-1.

Structural timber is graded visually according to national regulation DIN 4074-1 by experienced and specially trained employees. A variety of visual wood features are evaluated to determine the correct sorting class (e.g. S 10) which is then translated into a corresponding strength class.

Structural timber is produced according to your individual requirements. Whether we produce structural timber planed on all sides, sharp-edged or capped, it’s all up to you. Structural timber can be produced within the following ranges:

Strength:	30 – 120 mm
Width:	80 – 280 mm
Length:	up to 5,60 m

Structural timber does not contain finger joints. Since strucutal timber is cut directly out of wood logs, lengths above 5,60 meters are generally not possible. Longer logs are rare and are usually cut into high-value products for carpentry or used for veneer production. If you need longer products, we recommend buying finger-jointed structrual timber.

When looking for cross sections abot 120 x 240 mm, we strongly recommend using glued products such as glued solid timber since they are more homogenous and provide a much higher dimensional stabiltiy. Moisture Content

Structural timber comes with a mean moisture content of 20 % at most. Single moisture content values may exceed 24 % by valid production standards.
